Inspiring Young Writers with Local Author Visit

Learners at Three Bridges were inspired to explore their creativity and love of storytelling as they welcomed local author Ben Rowswell to the school on Thursday 5th March, in celebration of World Book Day, alongside Careers Week and St Piran’s Day.

Ben, a Cornwall-based author and adventurer, spent time with learners delivering an engaging presentation about his journey as a writer, as well as leading interactive activities designed to spark imagination and confidence in creative writing. Drawing on his own experiences of growing up in Cornwall and his connection to the sea, Ben encouraged learners to write about the things that matter most to them and the environments that inspire them.

During the visit, learners had the opportunity to ask questions about Ben’s career, gaining valuable insight into what it means to be an author and how personal experiences can shape storytelling. His passion for nature, adventure and creativity shone through, motivating learners to develop their own ideas and express themselves through writing.

The visit formed part of a wider week of celebration at Three Bridges, bringing together literacy, cultural awareness and careers education in a meaningful and engaging way.

Lisa Smith, Principal of Three Bridges, said:

“It was a pleasure to welcome Ben into our school and to see how engaged and inspired our learners were by his story. Opportunities like this are so important in helping our learners to see what is possible, to find their voice and to develop confidence in expressing themselves. The session linked beautifully with our celebrations of World Book Day, Careers Week and St Piran’s Day, making learning both relevant and memorable.”
